How to maintain Halloween traditions in Nottingham

Nottingham is a place full of activities and lots of spooky decorations around the city centre to celebrate Halloween this year.

Whether this is your first Halloween away from home or you just need some inspiration, you can still do many of the things you used to do at home but perhaps in a new way.

Halloween is fast approaching so here are some events to go to where you can follow some of your favourite Halloween traditions.

Dressing up for Halloween Parties

Halloween costumes are arguably one of the best things about the holiday and there are plenty of events in Nottingham where you can get dressed up for.

Whether youโ€™re looking for a spooky outfit or a themed outfit, Luvyababes in the Victoria Centre is the place to go to buy your Halloween essentials and take advantage of their 10% student discount.

As for the events, the weekly NTU events including Lemonade Fridays, Iconic, District and Stealth are getting a Halloween takeover or you can go to The Level on Tuesday for The Apocalypse where the venue will be transformed into a haunted club.

However, if youโ€™re not a fan of clubbing, you could go on a Halloween bar crawl since many bars in Nottingham such as MOJO, Slug and Lettuce and Be At One are decorating their spaces and offering exclusive drinks.

Ghost tours at The National Justice Museum

If you love the scary and supernatural side of Halloween, then this is the place for you to visit around Halloween as the museum has been voted one of the โ€˜most haunted buildingsโ€™ in the UK.

Ghosts of the Gaol is a tour of The National Justice Museum where you can explore the venue and learn about its paranormal experiences in the past.

The event is on Halloween evening and two other Saturdays in November (4th and 11th).

Outdoor Cinemas showing Halloween Movies

Watching Halloween movies is a big tradition for many people so why not go to an outdoor cinema in Nottingham to enhance your watching experience.

Newstead Abbey, situated in Nottinghamshire between Hucknall and Mansfield, is showing Beetlejuice on Friday evening and Hocus Pocus on Saturday evening.

Wollaton Park, just a short bus ride away, is showing Hocus Pocus on Sunday, The Lost Boys on Monday and Scream on Tuesday (Halloween evening).

Both outdoor cinemas are encouraging fancy dress and there will be a Halloween themed playlist before the movie begins.

Carving a pumpkin is a very popular Halloween tradition which you can do amongst other students at the university this year and see everyone’s different designs.

There are two sessions at City SU and Mansfield campus on Tuesday afternoon.

Also, there is also the Harts Annual Pumpkin Competition (see details here) that you can get involved in for a chance to win an afternoon tea for two in Nottingham.
