Student acts showcase their skills at Trent’s Got Talent
A variety of acts came together on November 28 to show that Trent really does have talent.
Organised by NTSU VP Opportunities Jasmine Gaunt, the night saw nine performances from individuals and societies.
The talent competition took place at The Level with four glamourous judges; NTSU President Anna O’Hara, NTU and Confetti school officer Shimron Samuel, cheerleading coach Sophie Tatem and Ryan Turner, make-up society social sec.
It was hosted by Trent’s own Ant and Dec, Jasmine and VP Sport Jodi Stephens, who welcomed an excited room full of students.
The first act of the evening was Rinze That Soulja, with an energetic rap performance that got the crowd going.
He was followed by Amogh Mitra who performed an acoustic rendition of Chandelier by Sia with his guitar.
The audience waved their phone flashlights throughout the song and Shimron praised him saying: “You’re really good at engaging your audience, you were top-notch.”
The next performer was Sammy Hoffman with his version of Jonny B. Goode by Chuck Berry, as well as a few Inbetweeners impressions and some moonwalking on the side.
Anna said: “Your stage presence is amazing and the fact that you can play the guitar so well while dancing is very very good.”
Trent Dodgeball brought some fun to the show with The Dodgey Kens’ routine to I’m Just Ken from Barbie, including some impressive dance moves.
Sophie gave them some of her coaching advice, saying: “If you’re going to do a stunt you have to point your toes, but overall it was gorgeous.”
Next was a skillful pole dance performance from Chloe and Zofia (AKA Chlösza), who even brought Ryan and his friend Rebecca onto the stage after their performance to teach them a pole move.
Anna said: “That was incredible, the strength that must have taken and to do it in those heels is just amazing.”
David Eduardo Ramos Campana’s lively NSYNC performance brought many cheers from the crowd and he didn’t let Sophie pressing the red buzzer stop him.
Sophie still commended him, saying: “You could have had a lot of potential, you won me over in the second half.”
David said: “I’m just happy to perform in front of you guys, it’s all about entertainment.”
K-Pop Society had a big fanbase supporting their powerful dance to Back Down, bringing high energy.
Shimron said: “I’ve got just three words for these ladies. I. Am. Sold.”
Ryan encouraged those who didn’t dance outside of the society to do so, saying they have a talent that shouldn’t be wasted.
The penultimate act was Daisy Robinson singing She Used To Be Mine from the musical Waitress.
Shimron commented: “I loved your falsettos, the control you have is amazing.
“You definitely touched everyone’s hearts.”
The final competitors were Rugby Union with their Mean Girls inspired performance of Jingle Bell Rock, making everyone laugh and sing along.
Ryan was speechless but managed to say: “I’m a bit taken back, 10/10 from me.”
The boys were also encouraging Movember donations with their QR code.
The judges deliberated whilst audience members were encouraged to show their talents on stage.
The crowd could then vote online for their winning act from the judges’ top three: Daisy, Sammy and K-Pop Society.
The audience chose K-Pop Society as their winners, who took home £250 and the Trent’s Got Talent trophy.
The group said: “It wasn’t expected.
“When some people think of K-Pop they think very low of it, they don’t expect this.
“The support [from the audience and judges] was amazing.
Since the society won the competition, they performed their routine one more time.
“We were literally saying we should do it all again, then we did!”
The evening was clearly a lot of fun for both the acts and the audience and was the perfect way to show just how talented NTU is!
