Review: Is Goose Fair worth the hype?

The fun fair attracts more than 400,000 visitors each year, from both locals and tourists around the country.

Goose Fair is held annually at the Forest Recreation Ground and due to its popularity, it had been extended to a 10 day run this year from September 29 – October 8.

Having visited the fair twice this year and experiencing most of what it has to offer, this is what I thought:

Rides

The view of Goose Fair at the top of the big wheel.

Goose Fair had many different rides for everyone to enjoy – kids rides, family/gentle rides and rides for thrill seekers.

I also really liked that they had the traditional fairground rides of the big wheel, bumper cars, carousel and waltzers.

There were a lot of the exact same rides around the fair which does help to reduce the queue at busy times but it makes the fair a lot bigger and sometimes you would just see the same rides whilst walking around rather than finding new rides to go on.

Also, most rides were about £3-5 each which is quite expensive when you go on multiple rides.

You could get discount vouchers for some rides but they don’t save you too much money so I only went on a few rides each time because I didn’t want to spend a lot of money.

It would be great if they introduced a wristband scheme similar to other fairs in the UK where you pay a certain amount and then you can go on unlimited rides.

Things To Do

Although the main attraction of Goose Fair is the rides, there is still so much to do if you’re not a big fan of rides.

The fair has lots of different games to try which usually aren’t actually impossible to win (even if it did take our station manager Stan over £30 on one stall to win a prize).

It also has amusements with arcade games and a bar if you need to sit down and get away from all of the action for a bit.

You can always find something to do at the fair whatever you enjoy doing and you can spend a lot of time there.

Food and Drink

There are loads of food stalls at the fair offering different cuisines and snack options.

My fellow Fly Live members and I managed to try some of the food on offer at Goose fair during our visit.

I tried the mini doughnuts with Nutella for £5 which were delicious and kept me full for the rest of the night.

Ben searched for his Yorkshire Pudding wrap which he enjoyed and later on, had the traditional mushy peas.

I was definitely jealous of Ciara’s chocolate covered strawberries which looked so good and was cheaper than other options.

However, I did spend £2.50 on a bottle of diet coke and £3 for a plain ice cream when I first visited which I think was a bit of a rip-off.

Overall

It’s definitely worth visiting Goose Fair with friends or family because you will have lots of fun together.

Yes, it can get expensive but it’s a once a year event that’s worth experiencing and you can do it on a budget if you only do a few things.

I will definitely be going back there next year and now can’t wait for Christmas time when Nottingham’s winter wonderland comes back!
